Alexandrite Laser Hair Removal

Unwanted hairs are the major aesthetical problem both for women and men. Developments in laser hair removal technologies make it possible to getting rid of them in a practical and pain-free way. An Alexandrite Laser is a type of LASER (light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation) that emits high energy light through an alexandrite crystal. As the light passes through the alexandrite crystal, a beam of light 755 nm long is produced. This wave length directly aims at the melanin in the hair and does not affect the tissue around the follicle. As a result, the skin looks smooth, the duration of the treatment shortens and successful results can be obtained even with the weakened hairs.

How is Alexandrite laser implementation administered?
First step of this implementation is trimming the targeted area. Protective glasses are worn both by the patient and the practitioner. A hand device conveys laser beams to the targeted area. Laser pulses are repetitive and they destroy the hair follicles. The skin should be cooled during laser hair removal. Cooling process involves cool gas, cool air or cooling gels. Hairs should be in their anagen phase in order the laser pulses to be effective. The patient should avoid removing the hairs with their roots three weeks before the implementation.

Does the patient feel pain after laser hair removal implementation?
After the implementation, blemishes and swelling can be observed around the follicles. Moisturizing cream is applied on the skin and those blemishes fade away in one or two hours. Crusts may be formed on sensitive skins but they will fall of easily in one or two days. It is important to protect the implementation area from sun exposure for two weeks.

On which parts of the body can laser hair removal be implemented?
Laser hair removal can be implemented on the areas with unwanted hair of male or female body. These areas can be listed as below;

  • Armpits
  • The whole arm
  • The whole leg
  • Face (upper lip, cheeks, chin, forehead, temporal region, sideburns)
  • Decollete area
  • Back
  • Neck and the back of the neck
  • Ears
  • Nose
  • Hands and feet
  • Belly
  • Buttocks and hipline

How should the number and the duration of the sessions be?
The number of the sessions and the duration of them vary from person to person and targeted areas. While a session may take two or five minutes for a narrow area, it may take one or two hours for the whole body. Each session should be received at least every other month. The more the number of the sessions are the more it may take to grow the hair and then sessions should be made every two months.
